Thanks for this interview! The next time you have Dr. Hazan on, can you ask what she thinks about the current obsession with getting tons of dietary fiber? An extremely popular belief is that we all need to be frequently eating legumes, whole grains, seeds, and veggies in order to have a healthy gut microbiome.
I suspect that the ideal amount of fiber depends on the individual body, but I'd love to hear Dr. Hazan's take.
One point about what Dr. Hazan is saying, somewhat contradicting herself, in my opinion. From one side everyone has different microbiome, and species in one child can be incompatible with the other. And on the other side she wants to take normal children and transfer their stool into the sick ones... In my opinion fecal transplants should be done ONLY from NEVER VACCINATED INDIVIDUALS, children. Since the genetics plays a role here too, taking family members first in that experiment, before total even healthy strangers.
Lastly, will that fecal transplant have a lasting change on a human, and always a good change, even if it is from healthy individuals?
The issue could be like BLOOD type transfusion, which carries the fingerprint of SUGARS, connected to the diet, including the microbiome. That's maybw too extreme, but given the little research, one can imagine a lot...
